Our Lawyers have extensive experience of Crown Court cases, built over many years. These include the most serious cases involving drugs and murder.
Normally all cases begin in the magistrates court but the most serious cases are then sent to the crown court for plea trial and preparation hearings (PTPH). The difference of being dealt with at the Crown Court and magistrates is that if you have a trial in the crown court it will be a jury trial. If you are convicted and sentenced the potential sentences are much higher.
In the crown court stakes are often very high and you need to know that you are in safe hands. Our lawyers work with barristers who have a track record in defending clients in serious, high profile and complex cases and so you can rest assured that you will be represented by someone with the right skills and experience to assist you.
Some offences “indictable only” can only be heard in the crown court. These types of cases are the most serious and include murder, manslaughter, rape and intentional wounding. Other cases such as fraud, drug offences some assaults are ‘triable either way offences’ and can be dealt with either by the magistrate’s court or crown court
At Lexis Solicitors we hold a legal aid contract and therefore if you are eligible for legal aid we can assist you or alternatively we also represent private clients as well. We provide advice from the outset as to whether you will receive legal aid and if so, whether there will be any contributions to pay on your part. Our work starts at the police station. We advise you and represent you at the magistrate’s court. If your case is sent to the crown court we will already have met you, sorted funding and started to consider the evidence on your behalf with your barrister.
Remember, good lawyers are always proactive. It is not just about looking at the prosecution evidence but knowing what information to ask for. It is about instructing the right experts and making sure you have an expert barrister who has experience in dealing with the offences you are charged with. It is about leaving no stone unturned. Our lawyers will advise you if the evidence is against you and we will advise you of any potential defences.
